Ceftriaxone belongs to the beta lactam antibiotics or cephalosporin class and is mostly indicated for the treatment of the gram-positive bacteria. It falls under third generation of cephalosporins. It shows good effect towards multi-drug resistant Enterobacteriaceae.

Ceftriaxone binds to the carboxypeptidase, endopeptidase, Transpeptidase which are responsible for the formation of the membrane of the bacteria thus ceftriaxone inhibits them and therefore defective cell wall is formed leads to cell death.

Absorption- It is absorbed in lesser extent when given orally
Protein Binding- It shows 95% protein binding
Metabolism- It does not show metabolism
Excretion- It is excreted via urine as well as feces
