Cefixime and Clavulanic Acid is a combination of two medicines: Cefixime and Clavulanic Acid. Cefixime is an antibiotic which provides a solution for treatment of bacterial infections caused by beta lactam resistant pathogens.Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Cefixime against bacteria. It acts by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria.

Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections
Otitis Media (ear infection)
Pharyngitis and Tonsillitis
Acute Bronchitis
Uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervical/urethral)

Cefixime acts by inhibition of bacterial cell-wall synthesis.
Clavulanic acid is an irreversible inhibitor of β-lactamases.
This antibiotic shows its action by obstructing the development of bacterial cells walls therefore causing the disintegration of the bacteria. However, some bacteria acquire the genes to produce enzymes which inactivate this mode of action - so called beta-lactamases - drastically reducing the efficacy of this class of antibiotics.

Absorption- The drug is absorbed only 40-50 % from the GI tract (oral). Rate may be decreased if taken with food.
Distribution- Bile, urine (high concentrations); crosses the placenta. Protein-binding: 65%.
Metabolism- A portion of drug is metabolized in the body.
Excretion- 20% of an oral dose is excreted unchanged via urine and 60% nonrenal elimination takes place and a part is excreted via the faeces from the bile. Substantially it is removed by dialysis.
