Cefixime is an antibiotic and belongs to the third-generation cephalosporin class. It has high stability towards the beta-lactamase enzymes produced by the bacteria so, cefixime inhibits the cell wall synthesis.

Shigella infections
Chronic bronchitis
Bacterial sinusitis
Salmonella infections
Urinary tract infections

Cefixime binds with the penicillin binding protein present inside the bacteria thus inhibits the cell wall synthesis process and thus the autolytic enzymes such as autolysin mediates cell wall lysis.

Absorption- It is about 40-50% absorbed orally
Protein Binding- It is 65% bound to plasma proteins
Metabolism- It is metabolized in the liver
Excretion- It is excreted via urine

Stomach upset
Diarrhoea
Nausea
Gas
Headache
Dizziness

Contraindicated in people with hypersensitivity reaction

Clopidogrel
Valproic acid
Ascorbic acid
