Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Omeprazole is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid.

Omeprazole inhibits the sodium potassium ATPase pump present on the parietal cells. secretion of hydrochloric acid is mediated by this pump.

Absorption- It is rapidly absorbed by gastrointestinal tract
Protein binding- It is 95% bound to plasma proteins
Metabolism- It is metabolized in the liver
Excretion– It is excreted unchanged via urine
