Xylometazoline is an imidazole derivative which is structurally similar to adrenaline. It is used as a topical nasal decongestant. It is used as droplets or spray directly into the nose. It constricts nasal blood vessels.

Nasal congestion in cold, flu, sinusitis and nasal allergies (allergic rhinitis).

Xylometazoline is alpha-1 receptor agonist which is found in the walls of blood vessels in the linings of the nasal passages and sinuses. It constricts the blood vessel, thereby decreasing blood flow into the linings of the nose and sinuses. This reduces swelling and the feeling of congestion. It also helps reducing the production of mucus, helping to relieve a blocked nose.

Xylometazoline is a direct-acting sympathomimetic which has a vasoconstrictor effect by reducing swelling and congestion when applied to mucous membranes.
Onset of action 5-10 minutes, Duration stays for 10 hours.
